Shameful bi-weekly update

Posted by Wataponno - March 29th, 2021

Shame on me! I totally forgot to do these! I'm sorry (but you'll understand why)

The last weekly update was in mid february, so here's what happened since then.

TL;DR:

  • Story CGs mostly done
  • New monster girls enemies starting next month
  • Hopefully a new artist for the dungeon enemies to accelerate things
  • Dialogues and quests being work on

Most importantly, we officially launched Magical Waifus Academy on feb 11th on steam and since then have sold more than 1200 copies!!!!! I honestly would've been happy with 1000 copies in a YEAR! This brings great news as the extra income will serve to improve the game even more (mostly redrawing backgrounds at a higher resolution and kickstarting a new artist). Itch didn't yield a lot of copies sold, but we are releasing on the Nutaku store soon-ish, when their team will be ready. I'll keep you updated when I,ll have a date.

Speaking of new artists, I think we can all consider Katoushinobu, the talent behind the monthly bonuses, officially part of the team now. L4No-Shiro (you know them from the Bird and Fox shower CG, and the Ayla Daki) will lend a hand to TheTz by drawing some story CGs next month. They were supposed to start in March but got sick :(

Zane444, the artist behind the spell animations, is redrawing the backgrounds as we speak but I didn't receive any of them yet. They shall all be done by the end of May though. Finally, you saw TheTz's work throughout the month with the story CGs.

Next month, a couple story CGs are planned but all art for the Spring update should be done. We will begin working on the beach episode (summer update) with new monster girls, new classmates and new dungeons. You should see a couple new animations if all things go well :)

I'm also in talk with a new artist that could work on monster animations too. If they are up to the task, it would greatly improve development speed!

Dev wise, I started working on the dialogues a bit, but not much, mostly planning the quests. It's actually hard in a "point and click" to have actual, engaging quests. I'll do my best for you!

Code wise, nothing much happened. While I had relatively a lot of free time in January to polish and bug fix for the steam release, but on feb 15th one of my olf teachers called me to join her research team for her current research. I couldn't pass on the offer really... So until the end of the school year (end of june) I work more than full-time. So in the last month, between bug fixes, searching for new artists, managing the bonuses and patreon page and planning the quests I didn't really have time to code. That's also why the spring release is quests and dialogues, and the summer release (when I'll have more time to code) will expand on the dungeons, monsters, combat mechanics, etc...

Anyhow, know that as always, all revenues from the game are directly back to you through artists, voice actors, animators and the likes!
